Test Comparisons

The following tests for biocompatibility are compared on this page:

  1. Clifford Materials Reactivity Testing

  2. Biocomp Compatibility Tests

  3. Melisa Medical Foundation Tests

  4. Kinesiology Tests

  • None of these tests are accurate and cannot be used in isolation. Any of them may show toxic elements, such as fluoride, aluminum and plastic as safe.  This does not eliminate the toxicity of these elements.

  • The Clifford Materials Reactivity, Biocomp Biocompatibility and Melisa tests are scientific blood serum tests.

  • The Melisa tests are available in South Africa through AMPATH. They should cost under R2000.

  • The Clifford Materials Reactivity and Biocomp Biocompatibility tests will cost between R6000 to R8000 for people in South Africa.  Blood has to be drawn at a registered medical laboratory, then frozen, cold packed and sent overseas via overnight courier. These costs have to be added to the cost of the tests

  • Both Clifford and Biocomp tests for a wide range of materials, including metals, some plastics, fluoride and even substances such as Eugenol.  It may however, mark toxic elements as safe.

  • Melisa only test for metal sensitivity.

  • Clifford Materials Reactivity testing has both a dental and orthopedic panel, where Biocomp only test for dental materials and Melisa for metals.

  • Biocomp grades products in three levels, “highly reactive,” “moderately reactive,” and “least reactive.” Clifford grades products in a binary fashion as either “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory.”

  • If a person has an immune response to aluminum, Biocomp will treat all aluminum as toxic, but Clifford regards insoluble aluminum compounds such as aluminum oxide and aluminum silicate (found in many types of porcelain) as safe for all people.

  • If you plan a metal implant,  the most revealing test is the Melisa test. This is the only test that will show titanium sensitivity. (4% of people).

  • Kinesiology testing is not a medical blood test, but has its roots in the holistic health and Chinese medicine. It is based on the concept that something that is good for you, wil make you stronger and something bad will make you weaker. This type of testing is not scientific, but well recognized by many dentists around the world, leading research companies such as Prlabs and even the IAOMT. It can give you a good indication of which materials to use or to stay clear from.  The tests are non-invasive, quick and easy and will cost between R200 to R400.

  • All tests may give false positives since the body changes over time.  A material that was tested as 'safe' may become toxic years after being placed in the body.

  • Blood tests may give a false result for fluoride.  Fluoride accumulates in the brain and bones. The only effect it has on blood is to decrease the migration of white blood cells.  When a blood sample is exposed to a small amount of fluoride, it may not prompt an immune response (generate antibodies). For this reason, the blood tests will most often report fluoride as 'safe' although it is toxic for all people.

  • Kinesiology tests may give a false result for fluoride. The body confuses fluoride with calcium and cannot recognise it as toxic.

  • Sensitivity for plastic is impossible to test, with either blood or kinesiology testing.
