Treatment
Fluorosis is curable, if detected early, but once Skeletal Fluorosis (destruction of the bones) sets in, there is little hope for recovery.
The NRC (American Governmental Nuclear Regulatory Commission) estimates the biological half-life of fluoride in bone (the time for half of it to be removed) is as long as 20 years.
To improve the quality of life and prevent the disease from further progress, follow these guidelines:
Remove the sources of fluoride:
-
Replace white dental fillings containing fluoride.
-
In areas where there is fluoride in the water, install a reverse osmosis water purification system.
-
Avoid the following drugs which contain fluoride: Prozac (fluoxetine), Rohypnol (flunitrazepam), Diflucan (fluconazole, Flixonase or Flixotide (fluticasone), Stelazine (trifluoperazine, Fluanxol or Depoxol (flupenthixol) or Floxapen (flucloxacillin).
-
Use fluoride-free toothpaste, like Spry, Tom’s, Tea Tree, Sarakan, Natural Propolis, Weleda, Aloedent and others. Avoid mouth rinses and dental gel treatments.
-
Avoid fluoride supplements
-
Avoid rock salts
-
Avoid black tea.
Treatment
Take adequate amounts of calcium, magnesium, turmeric, selenium, vitamins B6 and C. Calcium and magnesium help decrease fluoride absorption from the stomach and assist in elimination.
Maintain good general and dental health with a whole food diet - varied vegetables (lightly cooked or raw), fresh fruits and water. Limit sugar intake and processed foods.
Detox and Treat Fluorosis
In South Africa, the decision to use fluoride or not, lies with the dentist, not the patient. Currently the dentist is under no obligation to discuss the materials used with the patient - this may change. Currently he/she does not have to disclose the warnings on the package inserts with his patient (this is not the case in most other countries). Because of this, most dentists use the cheapest products and the patient has no idea of the toxicity of the materials permanently placed in his/her mouth.
Be Informed
When a woman in the UK sued her dentist for placing a fluoride filling in her mouth, the following was noted:
More and more patients are asking questions about mercury and, increasingly, fluorides. Dentists are treating a more educated and aware population. It is no longer possible to assert that the dentist knows best, especially if the dentist is not aware of the toxicities of dental materials and is also told by the dental hierarchy that fluorides are safe and effective.
